A half day a week full year Outdoor Program

Discovery Days is a half day Monday only program 

• Program runs from 9:30am - 12:30pm

Families can choose from:

• Forest School (ages 4 - 7) 
• Explorer's Club (ages 7 - 11) 
• Mad Scientist (ages 7 - 11)
• Lego Science (ages 7 - 11)
• Outdoor Adventure Skills (ages 9+)

Drop Off is between 9:15am - 9:25 AM 

Pick Up is between 12:30PM - 12:35 PM

• All classes are multiage, use an active learning approach and reinforce learning across multiple subjects when applicable.
• Learning is taken outdoors whenever possible. Students should come with weather appropriate clothing and a change of clothing each day.
• Schoolwork is self-contained within the program day therefore students do not receive daily homework.

• Forest School (**Waitlist) - Students will enjoy the beauty of nature while learning! This outdoors-designed learning time will explore the wonderful 5-acres that Mighty Roots Academy has to offer. Along with highlighting natural learning opportunities through adventuring and playing, forest schoolers will have two to three learning guide-prepared Learning Times each program day. These lessons will inspire interest in academics without formal pressure. Additional Materials: Rain coat, rain boots, snow pants, snow boots & waterproof gloves. 

• Explorer's Club - Students will receive a great opportunity to dive deep into nature themed unit studies! By using STEM projects, poetry, nature journaling, group projects, games and survival skills, students will embark on understanding and appreciating the natural world around them. Students will also engage and learn more about each other as they develop interpersonal skills. 

• Mad Scientist - Students will observe and explore the wonders of the world around us through experiments, projects, literature, games and more!  We will ask questions, test hypotheses, and work together to understand the natural world. Students may take this course multiple years, as topics rotate. 

• Lego Science - STEAM concepts will be brought to life using the perennial favorite, LEGOs!  Students will be presented with challenges that encourage them to explore multiple ways to solve problems, all while using the engineering design process.  In this team-based course, students will learn to troubleshoot, modify plans, and create strategically. 

• Outdoor Adventure Skills - This outdoor course gives students hands-on experience with the natural world. Students will develop skills to help them navigate the great outdoors as well as wilderness survival skills. Some of this year's topics may include: wild foraging, shelter building, fire starting, campfire cooking, hand woodworking skills, outdoor games, and other topics according to students’ interests. Additional Materials: Fixed-blade knife required for some topics.  

Students are placed in classes based on application periods: 

1) Current students enrolling in a new/different program 

2) New enrollments. We try to give all students their first choice of classes. If a first choice class reaches maximum enrollment, students will be offered their second choice if applicable.

• In order to ensure a highly productive and safe environment for all our students, Mighty Roots Academy requires that any parent staying on the grounds remain in the parking lot. There are several nearby restaurants, parks and attractions that offer entertainment and other conveniences. 
• Most courses allow a maximum of 12 students, but final determination is made individually for each course.
• Courses in which less than 5 students enroll may be cancelled at the discretion of the director.
