Employment Opportunities: Learning Guides
Role and Responsibilities
- Course Planning & Teaching:
- Plan, prepare, and teach assigned courses tailored to students’ needs and interests, aligning with Mighty Roots Academy’s Mission & Philosophy, Goals & Aims, and Policies & Procedures.
- Purchase supplies and resources within the assigned budget.
- Lesson plans are developed by the learning guide to fit the unique needs of their students.
- Directors provide support in selecting teaching resources; however, no set curriculum is mandated unless specified in the course description.
- Some courses may include pre-selected materials or required topics to be covered.
- Preparation Time:
- Preparation is done outside the academy’s operating hours, as fits your schedule.
- Extension Activities:
- Offer optional activities for students to use at home.
- No homework or grades are assigned.
Teaching Programs
Learning guides may teach in one or more of the following programs:
- Homeschool Academy (Tuesdays and Thursdays | 30 weeks/10 months)
- Creative Options (Mondays and/or Wednesdays | 30 weeks/10 months)
- Discovery Days (Half-day sessions | 10-week terms in Fall and Spring)
Compensation and Employment Details
- Pay Rates:
- Full Day (5.5 hours): Starting at $108 per day
- Half Day (3 hours): $30–$35 per session
- Single Courses: $18--$25 per hour
- Experienced guides teaching multiple programs may qualify for higher starting rates.
- Special Course Opportunities:
- Learning guides interested in teaching specific courses (e.g., Dance, Theater, Robotics, College Prep) may be considered for tailored opportunities.
- Contract and Benefits:
- Employment is contracted for the full program year.
- Full-day employees receive one paid sick day per week of teaching.
- Student Placement:
- Learning guides may enroll their children in the program they teach, provided the child meets program criteria.
- While free tuition is not permitted due to 501c3 restrictions, staff members are eligible for a 20% tuition discount for the programs or hours they teach.
Communication and Training
- Use the assigned messaging app to communicate with parents and send course updates.
- Participate in mandatory Teacher Orientation and Back-to-School Day (July/August).
- Complete First Aid/CPR training (paid by Mighty Roots Academy).
- Must complete a background check and Mandated Reporter Training.
Additional Participation
- May be required to attend parent meetings or Mighty Roots Academy events.
