“Being a learning guide was not quite what I intended. However, I wanted more information about what my son would be learning and was encouraged to come to the learning guide information night. At the information night, I met a wonderful group of like-minded women who each cared about preserving childhood as much as I did. I wasn’t sure being a learning guide was the right path for me but decided to take the risk. After the first few weeks of leading four creative classes, I was hooked. The kids were kind, engaged and inquisitive. Now, I can’t think of a better option for how things turned out. Sometimes, the best journeys are the ones you never expected.”

I’ve made some amazing connections with students. The toughest students have become some of my favorites. Watching them light up when they discover something new, seeing them gain confidence, or hearing their ideas and creativity come to life… those moments remind me why stepping outside of my comfort zone was worth it. “As a new Learning Guide at Mighty Roots, I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand how beneficial and unique our program is. I previously taught in traditional school settings for five years, and the way we are able to support our students here is something I’ve never experienced before. I love being able to honor each student’s unique learning needs and personality in a way that encourages both academic growth and social development. I never need to rush our students, which gives them the chance to live their childhood at a child’s pace instead of being pushed into something they may not be ready for.
Seeing the students lift one another up, help each other, and offer grace so naturally—especially across such a wide age range—is a true gift to witness and facilitate.
